When is it time to consider hospice?
When a physician believes a patient’s life expectancy is six months or less if the illness runs its normal course, or when the focus shifts from cure to comfort. Many families say they wish they had called sooner. You can call us anytime to ask, with no obligation.
Does choosing hospice mean we’re giving up?
No. Hospice shifts the focus to comfort, dignity, and quality of life, with support for the whole family.
Who pays for hospice?
Medicare covers nearly all hospice care. We also work with the VA, commercial insurance (prior authorization required), and private pay. See Insurance & Payment Options.
Where is care provided?
Wherever the patient calls home: private homes, assisted living, memory care, or a nursing facility.
Can we keep our own doctor?
Yes. Patients can keep their own doctor if they wish, and our team works with them.
What if the patient lives longer than six months?
Care can continue as long as the hospice physician recertifies that the patient still qualifies. Living longer does not end the benefit.
Can we stop hospice if we change our minds?
Yes, at any time. A patient can stop hospice and return to regular Medicare coverage, and can enroll again later if they qualify.
Can we change hospices?
Yes. Patients can choose their hospice, and Medicare allows changing hospices once during each benefit period.
Who is on the hospice team?
Nurses, hospice aides, a social worker, spiritual care providers, a dietary counselor, physical, occupational, and speech therapists, and volunteers.
What happens if there’s a problem at night or on a weekend?
Call 602-492-1643. Available 24/7. After hours, on weekends, and on holidays, a Bliss nurse answers every call, never an outside answering service.
Does hospice provide medications and equipment?
Yes. Medications and equipment related to the terminal illness are covered.
Does Medicare pay for room and board in a facility?
No. Medicare doesn’t cover room and board in a nursing home or assisted living facility. Care in a private home has no room and board charge.
What support is there after a loss?
We offer bereavement support for 13 months after a loss.
Do you offer interpreters?
Yes. Interpreter services are available in many languages through a third-party service.
How do I start?
